Treadmill Testing

What is Computerized Treadmill Testing (TMT)?

Computerized Treadmill Testing (TMT) is a non-invasive cardiac stress test that evaluates how your heart performs during physical activity. As you walk on a motorized treadmill, your heart rate, blood pressure, and ECG are monitored to detect potential heart-related issues that may not appear when you’re at rest.

Why is TMT Important?

TMT helps identify:

  • Coronary artery disease (CAD)

  • Exercise-induced arrhythmias

  • Ischemia or reduced blood flow to the heart

  • Your heart’s capacity and endurance level

It’s also used to assess your fitness level before starting an exercise program or after a cardiac event.

Who Should Get a TMT?

TMT is commonly recommended if you:

  • Experience chest pain, breathlessness, or palpitations during exertion

  • Have a family history of heart disease

  • Are undergoing evaluation for fitness to return to work or surgery

  • Need follow-up after a previous heart treatment or procedure

How is the TMT Performed?

  • You will walk on a treadmill that gradually increases in speed and incline.

  • Your ECG, blood pressure, and heart rate are continuously monitored.

  • The test lasts around 15–20 minutes, depending on your tolerance and results.

  • A trained technician or cardiologist supervises the entire process for safety.
